South of Market Neighborhood
South of Market Street, San Francisco's most notorious and misunderstood district. With shaky boundary lines at best, the term SOMA used to encompass the entire South of Market area between the Embarcadero and 13th Street, with the Mission Creek being the dividing line to the south. With the emergence of South Beach and the East Cut, everything west of 3rd Street is coined SOMA for real estate purposes.
SOMA hosts some of the most interesting and unique properties in the city, from 4,500 sq/ft lofts to single-family homes inside old industrial warehouse buildings, you can truly find a gem on every block. Close proximity neighborhood features include SFMOMA, Oracle Park, Cal Train + Freeway access, as well as a host of Michelin star restaurants and great spots for a nightcap; the neighborhood is truly an underground playground.
With the Central SOMA Development Plan getting the green light, an estimated $2B will be spent to revamp the area. The coming years will showcase a much different SOMA than San Francisco has come to expect.
